Trusted Since 1977

Trusted Generator & Electrical Service Since 1977

Bluffs Electric has served Council Bluffs and the surrounding area for nearly 50 years. As an authorized Generac dealer, we specialize in whole-home generator systems and know this equipment inside and out. Our maintenance plans are built on the same commitment to quality, honesty, and reliability that our customers have depended on since day one.

Electrical and generator problems rarely happen with warning. A breaker that's been slowly loosening for months can arc without notice. A generator that hasn't been serviced may fail on the first night of a winter outage. Preventative maintenance catches these issues early, when they're easy and affordable to fix, rather than after they've caused real damage.

Common Questions

Maintenance Plan FAQs

How often should my standby generator be serviced?
At minimum, once per year or every 100–200 run hours, whichever comes first. Generators in high-dust, high-humidity, or extreme weather environments may need more frequent service. Annual maintenance is required by most manufacturers to maintain warranty coverage.
What happens if you find a problem during a maintenance visit?
If we identify any issues beyond routine maintenance, such as a failing component or needed repair, we'll explain the problem, provide a separate quote, and let you decide how to proceed. Maintenance visits are inspections and preventative service only — repairs are always quoted separately.
Do I need a maintenance plan if my generator is new?
Yes. Even new generators need their first oil change and service within the first year. Starting a maintenance routine early protects your warranty and helps identify any issues from the original installation before they become larger problems.
What's the difference between the Home Generator Care plan and Generator Fleet Monitoring?
Home Generator Care is an annual hands-on service visit where our technician physically inspects, services, and tests your generator. Generator Fleet Monitoring is 24/7 remote monitoring that provides real-time alerts and proactive service response between scheduled visits — we'll know right away if your generator doesn't start on its exercise date. We recommend pairing both for complete protection.
Is the Electrical System Safety Check inspection the same as a code compliance audit?
No. Our Electrical System Safety Check inspection is a safety-focused evaluation that identifies potential hazards and areas of concern using infrared thermal imaging and visual inspection. While we'll note visible code violations we observe, it's not a full code compliance audit. If code correction work is needed, we'll provide a separate recommendation and quote.
What areas do you serve for maintenance plans?
We serve Council Bluffs, IA and the surrounding Southwest Iowa and Omaha metro area, including Glenwood, Missouri Valley, Crescent, Bellevue, Papillion, Gretna, La Vista, and many more communities throughout the region.
